White Noise: They Can’t All Be Anna

by Matt Shamblin

White noise is a random signal (or process) with a flat power spectral density. In other words, the signal contains equal power within a fixed bandwidth at any center frequency. White noise draws its name from white light in which the power spectral density of the light is distributed over the visible band in such a way that the eye’s three color receptors (cones) are approximately equally stimulated.

Electronic voice phenomena is one of the most fascinating areas of paranormal research. Human-sounding voices of unknown origin are recorded on electronic media such  as tape recorders, digital voice recorders, video recorders, etc. The voices are not heard at the time of the recording; it is only when the recording is played back that the voices are heard. Contrary to what you’ve seen in the movies, EVPs are often found without the use of  white noise.

The phenomenon has been experienced and documented since the invention of recording devices. Skeptics said that the voices were caused by stray radio broadcasts or pre-recorded voices on re-used tapes. Now however, digital recorders, which require no tapes, make that argument irrelevant – still the voices show up.

If they had researched it, they would have found that the radio broadcast theory is nuts because these voices would respond to questions posed, comment on situations, and even address the researchers by name in some instances.

Where do the voices come from?  Do they come from our own subconscious (pareidolia)? Are they angelic or demonic in nature? Do they cross over from a parallel dimension? Are they the voices of dead people?

EVP’s seem to be direct communication, hard evidence. The voices are there on the recordings. They respond, answer questions, even ask questions of their own. There are hundreds of these voices documented.

There are EVP’s reflecting a full range of  personalities and emotions. These voices are not only self-aware, but their interaction with researchers indicates that they are aware of their environment. They can hear us and see us.

If EVPs are voices of the dead, what does that mean for us? We too might get stuck in that limbo, struggling to make contact with strange beings walking around with recorders.

I am inclined to believe that our personality hereafter will be able to affect matter. If this reasoning be correct, then, if we can evolve an instrument so delicate as to be affected by our personality as it survives in the next life, such an instrument, when made available, ought to record something.
